U.S. Department of Transportation Announces $125 Million Funding Allocation to Santa Clara VTA for BART Silicon Valley Phase 2 Project - Federal Transit Administration: SAN JOSE, Calif. – The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Acting Administrator K. Jane Williams today announced the allocation of $125 million to the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) for the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Silicon Valley Phase II project. This is the first project to receive a funding allocation under FTA’s Expedited Project Delivery Pilot Program.

APTF Announces Recipient of the 2019 MV Transportation/Latinos In Transit Scholarship



Congratulations to Lisa LaMantia-Rivera for being awarded the American Public Transportation Foundation (APTF) MV Transportation/Latinos In Transit Scholarship Award. Lisa is employed by the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) as a Senior Project Manager. Lisa is pursuing her Masters of Infrastructure Planning & Management at the University of Washington. Lisa is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners and has a Master’s Degree in City and Regional Planning and a Bachelor in Arts Degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Ohio State University.

Rolando Cruz
On behalf of the LIT Board of Directors, Congratulations to Rolando Cruz and CulverCity Bus for selecting Rolando as their new Chief Transportation Officer. Mr. Cruz has over 25 years of transit experience. Most recently as the Chief Operations Officer for Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus.

Rolando began his career in public transportation in 1995 at Long Beach Transit, working in Finance. Three years later, he became the Fleet's Maintenance Manager. In January 2008, he was named Executive Director and Vice President of Maintenance and Infrastructure. In 2016, Rolando joined the City of Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus as the Chief Operations Officer.

Rolando is a CPA and holds an M.B.A. and a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of Texas. He is a graduate of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) leadership program in 2008 and is involved in multiple committees with APTA and California Transit Association. He is currently serving as a mentor in the APTA Emerging Leaders Program and teaches classes with the National Transit Institute on Transit Asset Management and Safety Management Systems.

He assumes the position following the retirement of Transportation Director Art Ida, who retires this month after serving 11 years in the position.

Latinos In Transit Joins APTA Diversity and Inclusion Council




On May 19, 2019 the APTA Diversity and Inclusion Council held a meeting at the APTA Mobility Conference in Louisville, Ky. Chaired by Nathaniel Ford, Sr., Council Chair, a motion was made to add a seat to the Diversity and Inclusion Council Steering Committee for Latinos In Transit. The motion was unanimously passed by the committee members. Alva Carrasco, Vice President of the Board of Latinos In Transit, thanked the committee members and pledged commitment on behalf of the Board of Directors. “LIT’s recently signed cooperative agreement with APTA has reinvigorated our board’s commitment to serving our members, partner transit agencies and sponsors.  We are looking forward to participating on the committee,” said Alva Carrasco.

APTF Now Taking Applications


LIT and MV Transportation, Inc. recently committed funds to the American Public Transportation Foundation (APTF) to sponsor a Latino In Transit! The APTF is taking applications now!  The 2019 scholars will receive free registration and a travel stipend to attend APTA's 2019 TRANSform Conference, which will be held in New York, NY, October 13-16. Cesar Chavez Day is celebrated all over the United States. On this day, many community and civil rights leaders take the opportunity to speak about the values of Cesar Chavez and the methods he used to make a positive impact on society. Discussions and debates also occur on this day to bring the public’s attention to key issues of the day. Issues which can include worker’s rights, medical coverage for workers, fair wages and benefits.

Leadership APTA is Now Accepting Applications


Leadership APTA, a program offering of APTAU, is now accepting applications for the Class of 2020.
 
With more than 525 graduates over its 20 plus year history, Leadership APTA has distinguished itself as the premiere program to develop and support experienced managers and leaders aspiring to hold executive and senior leadership positions in APTA, their organizations, and the public transportation industry.
 
Participation in Leadership APTA helps advance careers, broaden perspectives, and provide key lessons and resources. 
 
The year-long program features executive round-tables, workshops, class leadership projects, site visits, and candid discussions relevant for today's leaders in both the public and private sectors.
 
The Leadership APTA application deadline is Friday May 3, 2019.
